A Time Capsule of Memories Covers the Walls of Rosenfeld’s

The next time you visit, you might notice some new ‘decor’ in our shop, specifically, the 2023 commendation from Newton Mayor Ruthanne Fuller, recognizing our fifty years of service to the Greater Newton community. This amazing honor takes its place among a true time capsule of pieces we’ve collected over the years that many people may think were chosen for their “retro” look, but actually hold a place in our hearts and history of our store.

An Ode to Boston’s Musical Past

We’ve been collecting memorabilia from the day we opened and some are surprised to see the large amount of music memorabilia adorning our walls. From bumper stickers and “swag” from Boston radio stations past and present, to a signed photo of iconic radio personality Wolfman Jack to the posters, photos, and backstage passes from Grateful Dead concerts that harken back to a certain someone’s wilder youth, there’s quite a musical history that rotates in and out on the shop walls for you to explore.

Local History at Your Fingertips

One of the most talked about pieces every year is the circa 1989 map of Newton hanging above the side cases. These maps were a free promotional item at many local businesses long before cell phones and GPS swooped in to replace them. Some pic-worthy moments are to be had with both the authentic payphone and our hand painted Rosenfeld’s sign that inspired the artwork for our mugs and t-shirts.

Our Brag Board

And of course, our walls are host to the many articles we’ve been featured in and honors we’ve received over the years. From The Boston Globe and Improper Bostonian to the illustrious Cooks Illustrated, our bagels and challah have received quite a lot of press. You’ll even see mention of us in reference to historical events including our connection to the Watergate investigation and the Blizzard of ‘78!

So the next time you stop in, take a moment to look around and take in the history. You might be surprised by what you see and learn about your city, local history and your favorite Newtonian bagel shop.
