How to Keep Your Bread Fresh Longer

Everyone loves bread fresh from the oven, but who has time to bake a fresh loaf every day or run to the store every time you crave that warm, doughy goodness? While these tips won’t deliver that hand-warming, butter-melting, make-your-mouth-water scent of a loaf straight from the oven, they will make your purchases last longer and ensure that your loaves will stay soft, tasty and enjoyable.

Here are our top tips for keeping your bread fresh and fabulous for as long as possible:

  • Keep your breads in the paper bag until it cools, then transfer it to a plastic bag or wrap in aluminum foil.
  • Invest in a good bread box. If you buy fresh bread often, a good bread box is great for maintaining a soft interior and crusty crust.
  • Freeze your breads within a day of bringing them home. You can stock up on your favorite loaves, or preserve your leftovers and freeze them for up to 2-3 months. Simply place in a freezer bag, remove as much air as possible and seal tightly. Reheat the bread in the oven when you’re ready to use it.

So feel free to skip the lines during the High Holidays, or any other occasion, and pick up your challah early. You can freeze and enjoy it with one less hassle in your day when you have so many other things to do!
